BMW debuted the /6 in 1974 and while it had a short run (just through 1976); it’s a great generation of bikes for riders who want classic styling and authenticity with above average reliability.

This sixth-generation bike adopted a five-speed gearbox, stronger 280-watt alternator, and front disc brake with single-piston caliper mounted behind the fork to reduce distortion during hard braking. A hydraulic steering damper was adjusted by turning the plastic knob atop the fork. The previous /5 series still had the speedometer integrated into the headlamp nacelle, but now the separate speedometer and tachometer were mounted at the short, slightly rising handlebar.

The R75/6 is an excellent machine. It manages to achieve what most of the new retro-styled bikes set out to do – have a classic look with modern handling. It’s one of the most understated, well-thought-out classic motorcycles you'll ever had the pleasure of riding. The R75/6 manages to ride and operate just like a modern motorcycle, while still giving you a taste of the rich history of BMW and its sensational boxer-twin engine.
